What are personal data?

The General Data Protection Regulation, in Article 4 (1) defines the following definition of "personal data": "any information relating to an identifiable natural person or individual who can be identified ( 'data subject'); an identifiable natural person is a person who can be identified, directly or indirectly, in particular by an identifier such as name, identification number, location data, online identifier or one or more signs specific to the physical, physiological, genetic, psychic, mental, economic, cultural or social identity of that individual; ".

The General Data Protection Regulation, in Art. (1) provides the following definition of "special personal data": "... disclosing racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs or membership of trade unions and the processing of genetic data, biometrics for the sole purposes the identification of an individual, health data, or data on the sexual life or sexual orientation of the individual.
